🔷 Classification
At the Indian Sports Federation of Cerebral Palsy (ISFCP), athlete classification ensures fair competition and meaningful participation. We follow an inclusive, ability-based classification model based on international standards tailored to the unique needs of individuals with Cerebral Palsy and associated conditions.
🧠 Understanding Cerebral Palsy
Cerebral Palsy (CP) refers to a group of permanent movement and posture disorders caused by early brain development damage. ISFCP acknowledges the following CP profiles for classification:
- CP-1: Severe spastic quadriplegia (high support needs, limited mobility)
- CP-2: Moderate quadriplegia or severe diplegia (wheelchair or assistive device users)
- CP-3: Moderate diplegia or hemiplegia (independent mobility with support)
- CP-4: Mild diplegia or hemiplegia (independent with minimal assistance)
- CP-5: Ataxic CP (coordination and balance issues)
- CP-6: Dyskinetic CP (involuntary movement disorders)
- CP-7: Mixed-type CP (features of multiple subtypes)
- CP-8: CP with co-occurring intellectual or sensory impairments
🎽 Sports Classification Categories
ISFCP classifies athletes into skill-based divisions depending on:
- 🧩 Motor coordination and muscle control (including use of assistive devices)
- 🗣 Communication and social interaction ability
- 🧠 Cognitive processing and regulation
- 🏃♂ Physical strength and sport-specific skills
Based on these factors, athletes participate in levels such as:
- Level A – Independent and Competitive
- Level B – Semi-Assisted or Guided
- Level C – Fully Assisted with Aids or Wheelchair
⚖ Fair Play & Inclusion
Classification is conducted during initial athlete registration and reviewed periodically. ISFCP ensures:
- ✅ Ethical and non-discriminatory evaluation
- ✅ Trained coaches and classifiers for assessment
- ✅ Transparency and consent with families and caregivers
Our inclusive design allows individuals to participate at all ability levels — from assisted walks to competitive performance.
